In 2012 I joined the YPI as a participant and was very interested in netball. After one year, I graduated from the programme and I became peer leader. I was also selected to play in the Netball League, which excited me! This is what I had been working toward all along. Because of this, I got the opportunity to play zonal and inter-zonal matches for my school.
When I heard about the One Nation Netball Cup, I knew that I really wanted to play in this event. Eventually I got selected for the first ONNC, in 2013. It was a real good experience, I meet and played with people from different states. In 2014, the event was held for the second time, and I was once again selected for the Delhi team, this time as captain. Post-ONNC in 2014, I moved up and became a Community Sports Coach (CSC). As a CSC, I was able to participate in the ONNC but nowin a different capacity: as a leader! This time I was an umpire and the host of the “Cultural Night”. I was fortunate to have senior members of the YPI behind me who were ready to teach me, and help me develop my skills. My time as a CSC was a period of extreme skill growth, of which I am proud.
In 2015, I was offered the position of junior coach. During the ONNC in 2017, I assisted the impact team with monitoring & evaluation, and data collection. The last two editions, now as Impact Associate in Naz, I have been responsible for the registration of teams, data collection and building the capacity of other young leaders etc. My time in the ONNC and the YPIhas been a time of increased confidence, skill growth, and happiness.’
