Neelam, participant AaliGaon

Since her start in the programme, Neelam feels more confident and is able to speak to others in groups. Her perspective on the society has changed. Earlier, Neelam wasn’t bothered about the fact that other girls were not being allowed to leave their homes to play. Now she realizes that girls have the same right to move and learn as boys. She has learnt to raise her voice against any kind of violence that is being inflicted on her or her friends. Every day, she walks about half an hour to and from school. On her way, there used to be boys who made comments to her and her friend. Nowadays she’s capable of replying to the boys so that they keep quiet.

Neelam motivates and supports her peers. It is her wish that as many girls as possible can participate in the YPI Programme. ‘I want others to benefit as much as I do, so that they can play, be more aware about themselves and will experience positive changes in their lives”
